After the tragedy that occurred in year 2007 that led to the destruction of thousands of our green forests, the Lebanese Fire Prevention Committee – LFPC invites people to sign the National Petition to call upon the Lebanese government to buy fire fighting specialized helicopters as soon as possible in order to avoid future economic and enviromental losses.
LFPC asks the Lebanese Government about the results of the investigations in the forest fires that occurred in summer 2007 especially after the declaration of the Director General of the Civil Defense, General Darwish Hobeika that all the forest fires in summer 2007 were intentional.
The LFPC highlights the following recommendations hoping that the municipalities and the Lebanese Government will take serious actions when discovering a fire since early detection helps saves lives and resourses:
- Establishing control towers with qualified forest guards to ensure speedy interventions to combat the fire effectively.
- Securing the existance of vehicle passages to facilitate access for fire vehicles to the forest.
- Organizing training courses and regular simulations for municipal employees to help the Civil Defense.
- Cleaning forest waste, grass and branch remnants of trees aggrevate fire.
- Building water tanks in the forests.
- Educating citizens about the negative effects of the fires on the environment.
- Organizing projects to manage forest waste.
